Welcome to Current River Retrievers!

We are located in Thunder Bay, Ontario, an outdoor enthusiast's boreal paradise. We are blessed to call the North Shore of Lake Superior, the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe 'home'.

Current River Retrievers breeds family raised, health tested, multigeneration non-shed goldendoodles, with a focus on temperament, hunting and agility.

We love to be in the bush and on the water and strive to produce goldendoodles that excel both in nature and at home on the couch with their families.

Binesi our foundation dam is expecting her first litter in October 2024, puppies will be available to approved homes in December 2024.

Temperament

Goldendoodles are known for their friendly and gentle nature. They are often good with children and other pets making them suitable for families. Goldendoodles are known for their intelligence; they are highly trainable and eager to please. They are typically active dogs that enjoy exercise and outdoor activities. This makes them suitable for individuals or families who enjoy an active lifestyle and want a canine companion for outdoor adventures. They love to play! Like many other intentionally breed poodle mixes, Goldendoodles are known for having an extended puppyhood and will need structured obedience training to be successful family members. While many people choose a Goldendoodle for the companionship they offer, they are a very versatile breed suitable for many activities such as service and therapy work, barn hunt, agility, obedience training, scent work, and so much more! These dogs often form strong bonds with their owners and can be affectionate and loving. They are sensitive dogs that require a soft hand when disciplining.

General Appearance

The Goldendoodle is a friendly, intelligent, and confident breed with a happy expression that is engaging and welcoming to strangers. His loyalty and eagerness to please make him the perfect companion dog, the function for which he is purposely bred. Since this is not a conformation show breed, his health and calm temperament are equally top priorities; however, proper structure is also essential to overall health, well-being, and breed type. His temperament must be stable and sound under all possible situations while he continues to prove his suitability for service/therapy work. The breed was developed by crossing Poodles and the Golden Retriever, and therefore the physical appearance of this breed is a balanced mix of the traits common to those two founding breeds, which are the only two breeds that comprise the Goldendoodle.
